Types of roof repairs

Examples of the many types of roof repairs undertaken by All Star Roofing and Building.

Roofs take the brunt of the weather and with global warming storm forces are becoming stronger. Roof components that are most likely to fail are: chimneys, ridges, verges, apexes and dormers because these features are the highest point on the building and are exposed to the greatest wind forces.

Mechanically fix ridge tiles.

Building Regulations mandate that all new pitched roofs, tile or slate, must have mechanically fixed ridge tiles. Ridge tiles are essential in holding the roof covering in place in a storm.

New lead flashing and mortar repairs to chimney.

New mortar collar to base of chimney and Code 4 quality lead flashings where the roof abuts the chimney and party wall. Lead flashings are used at junctions in a roof such as walls of changes in roof direction.

New roof sarking and treated battens.

Full roof replacement showing new vapour permeable sarking membrane and treated timber battens. Modern sarking membranes are formulated to shed rainwater while allowing the roof to breath. This prevents condensation.

Artificial slate and hip tiles.

Finished roof. Artificial slate and mechanically fixed hip tiles. The vapour release system can be seen protruding from the edges of the hip tiles. This prevents trapped moisture causing rot.

Full roof replacement of roof on semi detached house.

Replacement of a roof on a semi detached house. New roof sarking and battens. Carefully remove old clay tiles and then replace. Outwardly the roof line of the two houses looks to be unchanged.

.

Old damaged roofing felt replaced with modern vapour permeable membrane and pressure injected treated battens. The existing tiles have been carefully stacked ready for re-fixing.
