Damp Proofing

In rainy Britain damp is the perennial problem. Damp can penetrate from the ground or seep in through the walls.

Tackling rising damp can be as simple as removal of debris at ground level that are allowing mosture to track upward from the ground via capilliary action, such as vegetation. Sometimes paving or other surfacing materials have raised the ground level above the installed damp proof course. Long term ground settlement can alter the natural drainage around the property.

Where a damp proof course has sustained damage, or in older properties not installed at all, injection of water repellant chemicals can create a new damp proof layer within the brick or stonework.

Where damp is occuring at higher points in the structure this can be due to perished mortar in brickwork joints or older brickwork becoming porous. Clear chemical waterproof compounds can be applied to brickwork, or, if the problem is really bad, a full external waterproof render can be applied.
